...7 billions

World’s 7 billionth person about to be born

...In the days ahead, a baby will be born who will take the global population above 7 billion for the first time, and in all probability that birth will take place in China or India, the two countries with more than a billion inhabitants...

...Aida

AIDA is a foundation. It supports artists who are persecuted because of their work. AIDA begins where Amnesty ends, or has not even begun. The persecution of artists takes many forms: censorship, isolation, restrictions on artistic expression, limitations in everyday life. Each regime has its own methods. For example: censorship in Iran is completely different to that in Iraq. The reasons for the persecution of artists rarely differ. The recent wars in the Balkans revealed yet again how artists are manipulated: their work has to legitimize the actions of those in power. In the Balkans writers were expected to justify the war. Their words had to be believed. Without belief there could be no war. An artist who refuses to cooperate, will be persecuted...AIDA supports the artists who raise their voices against oppression in their own country.

...in the hearts of millions

...I have seen thousands of great posts. But here is one from memory, Hisham told us how his relatives sat on garden chairs to watch Nato planes each night. I couldn't resist a joke about this but the reply brought tears to my eyes.
Daniel - "But do the Nato pilots get a round of applause afterwards ?"
Hisham - "In the hearts of millions my friend."

my heart joins the applause to all that had done the right thing about Lybia, inspite of the huge risks they did run, including the painful one that is to be misunderstood. The international help to Lybia made it possible for us, world around, to wake up in the morning and be able to look at the mirror without feeling ashamed, with some faith in humanity still preserved. Special thanks to Mr. Obama, Mr. Sarcozy and Mr. Cameron.

Great Congratulations to Lybian People!

...Senna

I have seen it yesterday and I loved it. This documentary, by Asif Kapadia, made in the year Ayrton Senna would be 50 years old, is not only a realistic history about the pilot, but makes the magic of bringing him back for a while.

...Fellini, Marcello and Sophia

I received this photo by e-mail from a dear friend and I loved it. It's in public domain, so if you'd like to download it, it's ok.
The first movie I have seen in a theatre was 'More Than a Miracle', in 1967.  It's a sweet story, almost a fairy tale, in which beautiful Sophia is a country girl that marries a prince. Few years later, I have seen 'Amacord', directed by Fellini. It was a midnight session on a rainy night and has finished around 2 am.  Streets were empty when I left the theatre and I could go around 'danzando nella nebbia'. Magic moment. Magic Fellini. About Marcello, he is one of my all time favourites actors. So nice to see them together in this photo.

...Matthew Barney

this photo shows Lama Lamina, created by Matthew Barney, in Inhotim: two mirrored geodesic domes, within a eucalyptus forest, where a truck holds a white tree, exposing its roots. The struggle between technology and nature is brought out, unveiled to sight by the light passing through glasses. It's very impressive, beautiful, and perhaps the most remarkable work I have seen lately.
