...Pina

Today I've seen this movie about Pina Baush, directed by Wim Wenders. It's really a masterpiece, I guess Pina would love it. I've chosen this clip among many others for the scene the dancer goes bending down from chairs, and says, in a very touching moment, she would like to offer Pina that moment of lightness, a sensation of weightlessness.

Highly recommended.

...The Band's Visit

The Band's Visit (Bibur Ha-Tizmoret) is a delightful israeli movie, directed by Eran Kolirin.
  I loved it!

...In a Better World

In a Better World  is a 2010 Danish-Swedish drama, written by Anders Thomas Jensen and directed by Susanne Bier. Winner of both the Oscar and the Golden Globe of 2011, its original Danish title is Hævnen, that means revenge. And that's what the story is about: the frequent hard choices we have to face between revenge and forgiveness, anger and reconciliation. Far from a mellow drama, conflicts are shown in a direct, realistic way, bringing several reflections...perhaps the best movie I've seen this year.

...Senna

I have seen it yesterday and I loved it. This documentary, by Asif Kapadia, made in the year Ayrton Senna would be 50 years old, is not only a realistic history about the pilot, but makes the magic of bringing him back for a while.

...Fellini, Marcello and Sophia

I received this photo by e-mail from a dear friend and I loved it. It's in public domain, so if you'd like to download it, it's ok.

The first movie I have seen in a theatre was 'More Than a Miracle', in 1967.  It's a sweet story, almost a fairy tale, in which beautiful Sophia is a country girl that marries a prince. Few years later, I have seen 'Amacord', directed by Fellini. It was a midnight session on a rainy night and has finished around 2 am.  Streets were empty when I left the theatre and I could go around 'danzando nella nebbia'. Magic moment. Magic Fellini. About Marcello, he is one of my all time favourites actors. So nice to see them together in this photo.

...Poetry

I have seen it several days ago, but it's still in my mind...maybe not only cause it is a beautiful movie, but also for the way this south korean movie, directed by Chang-dong Lee, presents drama and characters in their full complexity, without colourful moral underlines or heroes, something very close to real human condition: devastation can't be avoided, searching for a lyrical dimension in life neither.

...Happy Birthday, Mandela!

and here a clip of "Invictus", great movie directed by Clint Eastwood and inspired on President Mandela determination to unify his country, through forgiveness and reconciliation. The movie's tittle was inspired in the poem by William Ernest Henley that Mandela has kept with him, written on a scrap of paper, during the long time he has been in prison.

...The Mighty

Maybe i would have never seen The Mighty if it was not my friend Chris recommendation. As he says in his review on BC's Movie and Television Blog, the Mighty never really got the spotlight it deserved. I super recommend it too.

...Não Por Acaso (Not By Chance)
